A man was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound before dawn Monday in the 2900 block of France Road, near New Orleans' Desire neighborhood, as police continue investigating what they're calling a homicide. Fifth District officers were called to the scene shortly before 4:40 a.m. after receiving reports of a man down.

Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Fox 8. New Orleans EMS later confirmed the man had died. As WWL-TV reports, information about the shooting's circumstances and any possible suspect was not immediately available Monday morning, and the station said it had reached out to the New Orleans Police Department for more details.

Second Violent Incident In The Desire Area In Two Days

Monday's killing follows closely on the heels of another shooting in the same neighborhood. Just a day earlier, on Sunday, Oct. 25, two people were shot in the Desire Development neighborhood, according to the same Fox 8 account tracking area violence. Police said they responded to the 3000 block of Oliver White Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m., where a man and a woman were both found with gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital, per reporting from WDSU.

That Sunday shooting was itself described by officers as a double shooting under NOPD investigation, the station's report noted, though no arrest or suspect information has surfaced in connection with it either.

A Third Shooting Reported Earlier This Month

The France Road homicide and Sunday's double shooting aren't the only recent gunfire reported in the area. On Oct. 15, a man was shot in the 1900 block of France Street in the Fifth District, Fox 8 reported, citing NOPD. Officers received that call at about 6:24 a.m., found the man suffering from a gunshot wound, and EMS treated him at the scene, per the same outlet's account.

No arrests, charges, or case numbers have been disclosed in connection with Monday's homicide, and police have not released the victim's identity. Details on a possible motive or weapon in the France Road case remain unreported as the investigation continues.
