A 51-year-old neurologist who practiced near Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village has been indicted on felony sex abuse charges after prosecutors say he assaulted two patients under the guise of giving them massages during medical exams. Dr. Tariq Lamki now faces two counts each of First-Degree Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, and Third-Degree Sexual Abuse following a New York State Supreme Court indictment announced Tuesday.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced the indictment in a post on X
, describing an ongoing investigation into the neurologist. According to the
Manhattan District Attorney's Office
, court documents allege Lamki sexually abused two female patients over their clothing during closed-door examinations on August 25 and September 2, 2026.
The alleged assaults took place at 14th Street Medical Arts, an independent multi-specialty practice at 332 East 14th Street, according to the same office. The practice, which lists its location near Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, serves patients across the East Side.
Neurologist's Credentials and License Status
Federal practitioner registry records show Lamki earned his medical degree from Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine in 2003 and has held an active New York State medical license, number 286536, specializing in neurological surgery, per the station's report on file with NPIdb. His license status amid the pending criminal case has not been addressed in the indictment announcement.
Under New York Public Health Law § 230 and Education Law § 6530, the Department of Health's Office of Professional Medical Conduct can investigate physician misconduct and issue a summary license suspension ahead of trial if felony charges present an imminent threat to public safety, according to a review by Abrams Fensterman. Whether that administrative process has been triggered in Lamki's case is not addressed in the indictment announcement.
Charges Carry Up To Seven Years, Registry Requirement
First-Degree Sexual Abuse under New York Penal Law § 130.65 is a Class D felony carrying up to seven years in state prison and mandatory sex offender registration upon conviction, per the New York State Senate's penal code. Lamki also faces Forcible Touching and Third-Degree Sexual Abuse counts stemming from the same two alleged incidents.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant DA Davis Rosser within the Manhattan DA Office's Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau, working alongside detectives from the NYPD's Manhattan Special Victims Squad, the DA's office said. Bragg publicly asked that anyone who believes they were sexually assaulted by a physician in Manhattan contact the bureau's hotline at 212-335-4308.
Part of a Broader Pattern of Healthcare Abuse Cases
The indictment follows an October 2 indictment by Bragg charging psychotherapist Joseph LoGiudice with sexually assaulting two patients in his care, a case Hoodline reported on previously. That case similarly involved an appeal for additional victims to come forward.
Manhattan has seen major prosecutions of medical sexual abuse before. In July 2023, former Columbia University OB/GYN Robert Hadden was sentenced in federal court to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing dozens of patients under the guise of exams, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. The Lamki indictment adds to a recent string of cases pursued by Bragg's Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau targeting healthcare providers accused of abusing the trust patients place in clinical settings.
Open questions remain about whether additional victims come forward through the DA's hotline, the current status of Lamki's medical license, and his arraignment date in State Supreme Court.
