Marshalls and HomeGoods are both set to open their doors at North Andover Mall on Thursday, marking the latest milestone in a mall overhaul. The openings bring an estimated 125 combined jobs to town and follow demolition, construction and store shuffling that began in spring 2024.

The Eagle-Tribune reported that a Marshalls store is opening at North Andover Mall. The discount retailer told Patch its new store will open at North Andover Mall on Oct. 29 with a grand opening celebration running from 8 a.m. until closing at 10 p.m. The store is listed at 24,000 square feet and will be at the mall's north end.

HomeGoods will open its own North Andover store the same day at 350 Winthrop Ave., according to MassLive. Its grand opening is also scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that day, per the same Patch report on the Marshalls launch. The North Andover store will open at the mall that day.

New Jobs and Charity Gifts Tied to the Launch

Marshalls said its new store will bring about 60 full- and part-time positions to North Andover, the retailer told Patch. HomeGoods is expected to fill roughly 65 full- and part-time positions at its new location, per the same outlet's separate report. Neither company has said whether employees from the shuttered Lawrence Marshalls store will transfer to the new location, and TJX has not explained why it is closing the Lawrence store.

Marshalls is pairing its opening with a charitable donation. The retailer said it will mark its North Andover debut with its own $10,000 donation to a local charity, though the recipient has not been named.

After the opening-day event, Marshalls is expected to settle into daily hours of 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., according to Patch's reporting on the Marshalls launch. Marshalls, HomeGoods and sister brand T.J. Maxx are all owned by Framingham-based TJX Companies, the Eagle-Tribune reports. HomeGoods is described by MassLive as a sister store of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.

Part of a Broader Mall Rebuild

The two openings are another step in the mall's redevelopment. A larger, updated Market Basket was built in the former Kohl's store and moved from its former spot at the mall's north end in the summer of 2025. The supermarket updated and expanded its longtime facility on the Lawrence-North Andover line that same year, according to eagletribune.com. Construction on the broader mall reconstruction effort began in spring 2024.

The redevelopment has reached beyond the new storefronts. According to the Andover Townsman, the mall project also includes redesigned traffic patterns, reconfigured parking, and additional sidewalks, green space and drainage work.

Part of a Bigger Retail Expansion

The North Andover openings are part of a larger expansion push for both chains. Marshalls operates more than 1,200 stores across 48 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, Patch reports. HomeGoods currently counts 38 locations across Massachusetts, according to the company's website as cited by MassLive, and is simultaneously opening a second new Massachusetts store in Bedford at 297 Great Road.

TJX Companies CEO Ernie Herrman said in May 2024 that the retail giant could open at least 1,300 additional stores across its portfolio in the coming years, MassLive reported. For North Andover shoppers who have watched the mall's transformation unfold since 2024, Thursday's dual openings mark another milestone in the redevelopment.
