Memphis is waking up to clear skies and temperatures near 50 degrees Monday morning, but the cool start will give way to a sunny afternoon in the mid-70s. Winds will stay light from the east and southeast, and there is no rain in the forecast. By the weekend, temperatures are expected to push into the low 80s.
The National Weather Service in Memphis expects a high near 76 degrees Monday, followed by another mostly clear night with a low around 49. Tuesday should reach 78 degrees, while Wednesday and Thursday climb to around 79 and 80 degrees, respectively.
Low Humidity Raises Fire Concerns
The pleasant skies come with a serious downside: very dry air and parched fuels will create elevated fire danger Monday afternoon and through much of the week. Afternoon humidity could fall into the 20% to 30% range, and officials are urging residents to follow any local burn bans and dispose of cigarettes and matches carefully.
Winds are expected to remain relatively light, generally around 5 mph, which should limit the risk of rapid spread but will not eliminate it. With little to no moisture expected, the dry conditions could continue to support additional fire-weather concerns across the Mid-South.
Sunny Stretch Continues Through Sunday
Memphis should stay dry and increasingly warm through the rest of the week. Highs are forecast near 80 degrees Friday, 81 degrees Saturday and 81 degrees Sunday, with overnight lows gradually rising from the upper 40s into the mid-50s.
For Monday, the best plan is simple: a light jacket early, sunglasses by midday and extra caution with anything that could spark a fire.
