A pregnant woman was punched repeatedly and groped inside the Jones Orchard Haunted Corn Maze in Millington, according to police, who say the attack also left a witness and a maze employee assaulted before the night was over. The woman was taken to Methodist North Hospital and was reported in stable condition. A 32-year-old man is now facing felony charges and sitting in jail on a $150,000 bond.
Police identified the suspect as Luis Miguel Cruze, according to Action News 5. Investigators said the assault happened Sunday just before 9:45 p.m. at the maze on Singleton Parkway, where Cruze punched the pregnant woman several times with a closed fist and groped her, according to police.
Witness and Employee Also Targeted
The attack did not stop with the pregnant woman, police said. When a witness confronted Cruze, he hit that person in the shoulder, according to police. An employee of the maze was also groped, the outlet reports, and a second maze worker told police they saw Cruze groping several other women that night.
Cruze has been charged with sexual battery and aggravated assault and is being held on the $150,000 bond, per the same account. The alleged string of assaults, from the initial attack on the pregnant woman to the confrontation with the witness and the employee, all unfolded at the same haunted maze attraction within a short span of time, according to police.
Companion Claims It Was Meant as a Joke
A woman who was with Cruze that night offered police a different explanation for his behavior. She told police he was under the influence and wanted to scare workers “as a joke” and never intended to hurt anyone, the station reports. That account has not been independently verified beyond what was relayed to police.
The alleged attack took place at Jones Orchard's seasonal Fall Fun Corn Maze, which Jones Orchard says opened for the 2026 season on October 2 and has remained open Friday through Sunday throughout the month. The orchard's haunted maze draws families and groups looking for a seasonal scare on its grounds off Singleton Parkway, a popular fall destination for Shelby County visitors.
