A Millington man is facing aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping charges after police say he beat a woman he lived with for 20 minutes, striking her with a pistol, pushing her head into a window and threatening to shoot her if she called for help. Harvey Maurice Anderson, 43, is now held on $150,000 bond.

According to WREG, Millington police responded to a kidnapping and abduction call on October 15 in the 7800 block of U.S. Highway 51. Officers later went to Methodist North and spoke with the female victim, who described the ordeal in detail to investigators.

The woman told officers Anderson punched her and stomped on her head during the attack. She said that while she was sleeping, he struck her in the head with a pistol, and at another point pushed her head into a window, shattering the glass.

Victim Says She Was Trapped and Threatened

The woman said Anderson prevented her from leaving the residence during the assault, the station's report notes. She also told police that he threatened to shoot her and himself if she contacted authorities, a threat that came as she tried to find a way out.

Per the same account, the woman said she had previously kicked Anderson out and had taken his keys, though she said she did not know how he got back into her apartment. She told investigators Anderson eventually left the home and went to a store, giving her a chance to act. She ran outside, called an Uber to get to the hospital, and contacted Millington police.

Charges Include Drug Allegations

Anderson is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping, the article notes. Jail records cited in the report also show he faces a charge for possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, distribute or sell, along with a separate charge involving 19.8 grams of marijuana.

He is being held on $150,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on November 4.

A Broader Pattern Across Shelby County

The case lands amid a wider reckoning over domestic violence in the region. The University of Memphis Public Safety Institute unveiled a strategic plan in July to address the problem, noting that Shelby County recorded more than 16,000 reported domestic violence offenses in 2025, with over 14,000 of those within Memphis itself, according to the University of Memphis.

Preliminary data for the first half of 2026 showed nearly 8,000 reported domestic violence offenses countywide, with almost 7,000 of those in Memphis, the university said. The same report found that more than half of reported domestic violence aggravated assaults in the area involve firearms — a detail that echoes the pistol allegedly used in the Millington case.

Shelby County residents seeking help with intimate-partner violence, including filing an Order of Protection, can turn to the Crime Victims & Rape Crisis Center, which became the county's primary resource for such cases following the closure of the Family Safety Center, according to Shelby County government.
