A 26-year-old man is facing a felony charge after a street robbery near 5th Street North and Hennepin Avenue left a victim knocked unconscious and stripped of his wallet, Arizona ID card and cash. Darian Solomon Rosenthal was arrested after allegedly returning to the scene roughly three hours later, where officers say they found a replica Glock BB gun on him.
Rosenthal faces a felony charge of aiding and abetting first-degree aggravated robbery, according to mncrime.com. The outlet reports that a Hennepin County sheriff's deputy was flagged down by bystanders and spoke with the victim, who said he had been punched and robbed of his belongings. Investigators then reviewed surveillance video from the area to piece together what happened.
What the Surveillance Footage Allegedly Shows
According to the same account, the footage shows Rosenthal using his right hand to backhand-slap the victim in the face. Another man standing next to him then punched the victim, knocking him unconscious. Several people, including Rosenthal, are seen in the video going through the victim's pockets and taking his belongings, per the report.
Investigators determined that Rosenthal was wearing the same clothing shown in the surveillance footage when he came back to the area about three hours after the alleged attack. Officers arrested him on the spot and reportedly recovered a replica Glock BB gun on his person, the article notes.
Rosenthal's Statement to Investigators
After being read his Miranda rights, Rosenthal agreed to speak with officers. He admitted to hitting the victim but denied taking anything from the victim's pockets, per the same account. The felony charge was filed Oct. 2 in Hennepin County District Court, and the case is currently classified as an allegation based on a criminal complaint, according to court filing records.
What Minnesota Law Says About the Charge
Under Minnesota Statutes section 609.245, a person convicted of first-degree aggravated robbery can face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $35,000, or both. Rosenthal was charged specifically with aiding and abetting the robbery rather than carrying it out directly; under Minnesota Statutes section 609.05, a person can be held criminally liable for another's crime if they intentionally aid, advise, hire, counsel, conspire with or otherwise help procure the commission of that crime.
A Similar Case From Last Year
Street robberies turning violent have drawn scrutiny elsewhere in the Minneapolis area in recent months. In a separate case, Anthony Louis Rowe, 32, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and aggravated robbery after allegedly robbing and shooting a man near Cedar Avenue and 17th Avenue in November 2025, as reported by KSTP. That victim said the bullet cost him all eyesight in his right eye and remains lodged in his face; Rowe was arrested weeks later on unrelated drug-sale allegations at the same location before a prison inmate reportedly gave investigators details tying him to the shooting months afterward.
