Fire officials said a large mobile generator rolled into a building on Wood Road in Braintree on Friday afternoon after its brakes failed. It was being used by a nearby metal manufacturer, and officials said it was not driven into the structure. No one was injured, businesses were evacuated, and the generator was removed at about 10 p.m., NBC Boston reported. NBC Boston’s report described extensive damage to the building’s side.
Wood Road’s commercial setting
Wood Road sits near the junction of Interstate 93, Route 3 and U.S. Route 1. A Town of Braintree and Metropolitan Area Planning Council report describes the surrounding area as a mix of hotels, commercial offices, life-science firms and distribution businesses. That planning context helps explain the area’s commercial character, but does not establish why the generator rolled or identify a broader safety pattern. The town and MAPC report does not address this crash.
A separate Braintree truck crash
A tractor-trailer struck a home on River Street around 6:10 p.m. on July 24, 2021, Newsweek reported; two dogs were found in its cab. That was a residential crash, distinct from the Wood Road incident involving a mobile generator and a commercial building. The two events are examples from different years and settings, not evidence of a trend or a connection between their causes. Newsweek’s account covered the River Street crash.
