Morristown is about to get its first taste of winter wonderland charm, with a 2,200-square-foot synthetic ice rink headed for the area near the Farmers Market pavilion downtown. The temporary rink is expected to run for about four weeks during the Christmas season, giving residents a new holiday tradition in a city that has never had anything quite like it.
The rink will be installed near the Farmers Market pavilion at 130 W Morris Boulevard, according to wate.com. That same stretch of downtown is already familiar to locals as the home of the Downtown Morristown Farmers Market, whose regular season runs from May through October, meaning the ice rink will arrive just as the market's produce stands wind down for the year.
The Morristown City Council signed off on a three-year rental agreement for the rink, with the deal costing $29,665 per year, the outlet reports. First-year expenses will not come out of city coffers directly — that cost is being covered through sponsorship revenue from Eastman Credit Union, according to the same report.
When Will Skaters Hit the Ice?
Exact operating dates have not yet been announced, and the station notes that daily hours for the rink have also not been set. As reported by WVLT, the rink is expected to operate from around Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas weekend, lining up with the roughly four-week window city leaders have described.
Families planning a visit can expect a rental package that includes skates for both children and adults, along with skating aids for children and skate-changing benches, per WVLT's reporting. City officials have framed the rink as a first for Morristown, with one description putting it plainly: the city has never had something like this before, per the same account.
A City on the Rise
The rink's arrival comes as Morristown has been experiencing a notable population boom. Mayor Gary Chesney said in 2025 that nearly 3,000 people had moved to the area since 2020, growing the city by about 10%. A Tennessee State Data Center study cited by Yahoo News found that new job opportunities in Morristown are part of what's drawing people to the area.
With exact dates and hours still to come, residents eager to lace up will need to keep an eye out for official announcements. For now, the plan is set: a slice of synthetic winter, right in the heart of downtown Morristown, for at least the next three holiday seasons.
