A 29-year-old man formerly of New Boston is being held without bail after a multi-agency investigation led to his arrest on four counts of child sexual abuse material. Alexander Martinez was taken into custody Monday following a felony warrant for his arrest, and he was arraigned Tuesday in Goffstown District Court.
Members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Services Division made the arrest, according to Newport Dispatch. The division said it conducted a collaborative investigation that led to the felony warrant against Martinez, who was formerly of New Boston.
Multiple Agencies Worked the Case
The investigation that led to Martinez’s arrest involved more than one law enforcement agency. The sheriff’s division worked in coordination with the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office, per the same report.
Martinez is charged with four counts of child sexual abuse material, the outlet reported. New Hampshire’s statute on the subject, RSA 649-A:3, titled Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Images, states that a person shall not knowingly buy, procure, possess, or control a visual representation of a child engaging in sexually explicit conduct, or bring such a representation into the state, according to the New Hampshire General Court.
Held Without Bail Under State Law
Martinez was arraigned Tuesday in Goffstown District Court and is being held on preventative detention pursuant to New Hampshire RSA 597:2, the report states. Under that statute, a court may order preventive detention without bail when specific statutory conditions apply and there is probable cause to believe the person poses a danger to another, according to the New Hampshire General Court. The law also allows courts to instead impose restrictive conditions such as electronic monitoring and supervision in lieu of detention.
Details beyond the arrest, the charges, and Martinez’s detention status have not been released. The case remains under investigation by the agencies involved.
