Louie is scheduled to take over the former Garrison space in St. Johns this November. The bar’s buildout is underway, according to The Portland Tribune. Its planned menu includes classic cocktails, beer, wine and snacks.
According to the Portland Business Journal, Louie is opening from a member of the team behind Company and Collector. Jesse Morrow, the partner behind both of those bars, is the one opening Louie, according to a news release cited by The Portland Tribune. Morrow said Louie aims to offer a good cocktail close to home, without requiring a trip across town, the outlet reported.
A Nod to the Old Garrison, Minus One Specific Person
Louie is moving into the space long occupied by Garrison. The new bar plans to take on a community role in St. Johns while establishing its own identity, according to the Tribune. The outlet also reported that “Louie” is a family name for Morrow, not a tribute to a particular person.
Plans for the interior include reclaimed tabletops, used chairs and dim lighting, the Tribune reported. Louie will share a patio with neighboring sushi and ramen restaurant Mikasa.
City priorities for St. Johns and Lombard
Portland’s St. Johns/Lombard Plan, adopted by City Council in 2004, set out to support business revitalization in the town’s commercial core and along Lombard while improving the area’s livability, according to the Portland Bureau of Transportation.
What's on the Menu, and What It Will Cost
The planned menu includes classic cocktails with small variations, rotating specials, beer on tap, wine and snacks, according to the Tribune. Offerings are expected to include an Old Fashioned and Louie’s version of an espresso martini. The reported price range is $13 to $15 for cocktails; the report does not give a specific price for the Old Fashioned.
Louie is slated to open at 8773 N. Lombard St. in St. Johns in mid-November, the outlet reported. The Tribune, which credited the reporting to writer Hannah Seibold, noted its story may be updated as more information becomes available.
