Trillium Health celebrated the grand opening of a new clinic at 924 Jefferson Avenue in Rochester this week, bringing family medicine, behavioral health, and supportive services to a Southwest Rochester neighborhood where more than a third of residents live below the federal poverty line. The clinic is expected to help an additional 3,000 patients a year, adding a third primary care site to Trillium's growing Rochester footprint.

As reported by 13WHAM, the Jefferson Avenue location operates alongside Trillium Health's main campus on Monroe Avenue, offering care in addition to the organization's existing services. The clinic, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, sits in Rochester's 14611 ZIP code, according to Trillium Health. It is the organization's third primary care location in the city, joining the Monroe Avenue campus and a pediatrics and gynecology facility at 170 Science Parkway that opened in 2019.

A Neighborhood Facing Steep Health Gaps

The 14611 ZIP code where the new clinic sits carries some of the starkest economic disparities in Monroe County. In that area, 37.7% of residents live below the federal poverty line, per data from Census Reporter. Regional analyses by Common Ground Health indicate that life expectancy in Rochester's poorest ZIP codes, including 14608 and adjacent southwest neighborhoods, can run up to 10 years shorter than in surrounding Monroe County suburbs such as Pittsford, according to Common Ground Health.

Jason Barnecut-Kearns, president and CEO of Trillium Health, said the organization has worked to reduce health disparities and remove barriers to care since its founding, 13WHAM reported. Barnecut-Kearns took executive leadership of Trillium Health in July 2023 after five years serving as the agency's chief financial officer and chief development officer, the health system notes.

Harm Reduction Services at a Separate Location

Trillium offers primary care and behavioral health services at Jefferson Avenue; its dedicated harm-reduction services are located at 39 Delevan Street.

From an AIDS Crisis Response to a Multi-Site Health System

Trillium Health's roots trace back to 1983, when the organization began as AIDS Rochester. It merged with Community Health Network in 2010 to form AIDS Care before rebranding as Trillium Health in 2013 to deliver broader primary community healthcare, the health system states.

Trillium Health accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance, and it provides sliding-scale fee discounts based on household income for uninsured patients, according to Black Health.
