Short-legged dogs in Halloween costumes are set to take over a Newtown dog park this weekend, as Cincy Corgis throws its fifth annual Halloween bash. Organizers expect the gathering to be bigger than ever, drawing corgis from across the Midwest for an afternoon of costumes, contests and off-leash fun.
According to WLWT, the event will be held October 17, 2026, from noon to 4 p.m. at RJ WagsPark in Newtown. Cincy Corgis hosts the event and describes itself, per the group, as the largest dog meetup group in the greater Cincinnati area. The station reports the group has nearly 4,000 people, though other accounts offer differing figures for the community's size — Citybeat has described it as a community of over 2,000 people who love and own corgis.
Nikki Tran Duff, founder of the Cincy Corgis Group, has helped build the gathering from its earlier days into a regional draw, according to Local 12. That station reports at least 250 corgis are set to take part this year, a notable jump from a prior Corgipalooza that brought in more than 150 corgis from across the Midwest, according to Citybeat's earlier coverage. Reports have varied on the exact date of this year's gathering, with Local 12 referencing an Oct. 14 date for a Tri-State corgi gathering while other outlets point to the Oct. 17 date at RJ WagsPark.
What's Planned for the Afternoon
Dogs of all breeds are welcome, and attendees can expect games, food trucks, vendors and photo opportunities, along with a Halloween parade and a costume contest for dogs and their owners, per the seed story's reporting from WLWT. This year's event will also feature the group's first organized corgi race, a new addition alongside local vendors including a mobile dog groomer. Cincy Corgis hosts monthly meetups in addition to the annual bash, giving the community regular chances to gather at local dog parks.
Cincinnati Magazine describes a similar lineup for Saturday's event, noting that corgis and their humans can expect a costume parade, costume contests, a corgi fun run, raffles, vendors, trick-or-treating, photo opportunities, mobile groomers, pumpkin decorating and celebrity guests, according to the magazine's weekend roundup. Dogs attending will also have the chance to run and swim in RJ Wags' four-acre off-leash park, the outlet reports. Admission is listed at $10 for adults and free for dogs and humans age 10 and under.
A Regional Tradition for Corgi Lovers
Cincinnati's gathering fits into a broader pattern of corgi meetups drawing growing crowds across the Midwest this year. In Andover, Minnesota, about 300 corgis and more than 600 people turned out for that region's fifth annual meetup, according to MPR News. That event featured vendors, photo competitions, costumes and a derby race, with more than 70 corgis participating in the race itself, the outlet reported.
Back in Newtown, information on Saturday's event has circulated on Facebook and Instagram under the handle @cincycogis, per the seed reporting. Whether this year's turnout matches the scale of other Midwest meetups remains to be seen, but organizers are clearly aiming for their biggest Halloween bash yet.
