Norfolk wakes to fog and temperatures near 70 degrees Friday, but the mist will give way to one more summerlike afternoon. Sunshine will push the high close to 91 degrees before a sharp turn toward clouds, rain and cooler air this weekend.

One More 90-Degree Day

Friday will stay sunny with southwest winds of 7 to 12 mph and no rain expected. The National Weather Service says this could be the area's last day above 90 degrees until next year, with partly cloudy skies and a low near 68 tonight.

Rain Arrives Later Saturday

The weekend forecast has shifted, with Saturday's main rain chance now arriving after 2 p.m. instead of during the morning, according to the updated outlook; Hoodline's earlier forecast had called for showers to begin sooner. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 71, north winds of 7 to 13 mph and a 40% chance of showers.

Rain becomes more likely Saturday night, when the chance rises to 70% and a quarter- to half-inch of rain is possible. The wettest stretch arrives Sunday, with a 90% chance of showers, a high near 71 and thunderstorms possible later in the day as rainfall totals reach roughly three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch.

Cooler, Drier Weather Takes Over

A few showers could linger early Monday before mostly cloudy skies settle in, with a high near 72. Monday night drops to about 57 degrees, followed by a sunny Tuesday near 64 and mostly sunny conditions Wednesday near 67.

Beachgoers should expect a moderate rip-current risk at area beaches Saturday. Boaters should also watch for Small Craft Advisories late Friday night into Saturday on portions of the Chesapeake Bay and lower James River as northeast winds strengthen.
