Target's North McAllen store at 7400 N. 10th St. is set for a nearly $747,000 interior remodel next year, according to a state filing. The project will bring new wall and floor finishes, updated lighting, and new fixtures to the 68,000-square-foot store, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing dated September 23.
The renovation, tracked under TDLR Project TABS2027001763, is scheduled to run for 81 days, from May 3, 2027, to July 23, 2027, per Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records. TDLR filings note that the figures reflect estimated project budgets submitted at registration rather than final property appraisals, and that such records remain subject to change. As MySA reported, Target has undertaken other overhauls across the Rio Grande Valley.
Target also has a location at 3600 Nolana Ave. in McAllen. The Nolana Avenue store recently completed a separate renovation, while the North 10th Street location is slated for the project described here.
The Nolana Avenue Store Also Got a Remodel
Target recently completed a similar project at the Nolana Avenue location, investing nearly $4.2 million to upgrade that store's interior and exterior after work began there in March, the same MySA report notes. With that overhaul finished, crews have since shifted focus to the Nolana Avenue parking lot, where Target is investing more than $898,000 in a redesign.
A separate TDLR registration, Project TABS2027000469, puts the parking lot investment at $898,612 for repaving 219,481 square feet of lot surface, including asphalt milling, truck-area concrete repairs, ADA parking replacement, and lane re-striping between September 14 and October 9. Crews have blocked off large portions of the Nolana Avenue lot and are tearing out concrete as part of the work, which also includes redesigning ADA-compliant parking spaces and changing the lot's traffic-flow layout, per the same TDLR filing.
Part of a Bigger Texas Remodeling Push
The McAllen investments fit into a much larger national strategy. In a March 3 announcement, Target said it plans approximately $5 billion in capital investment in 2026, including more than 130 remodels and more than 30 new stores, according to Target Corporation. The company's plans include updated floor plans and displays, more grocery space, and support for same-day fulfillment services like Drive Up and Order Pickup.
That spending is happening against a backdrop of fierce big-box competition. Reporting from MySA found that Target submitted multiple $4.17 million TDLR remodel filings totaling $20.8 million statewide, while Walmart filed 41 separate TDLR projects across Texas last fall as part of a $27 million renovation push. Regional grocer H-E-B has been spending heavily too, submitting filings in July for nearly $4.4 million in store and fuel station upgrades across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, including a $1.45 million fuel station overhaul in nearby Weslaco.
More Retail Activity Along the North 10th Street Corridor
Target isn't the only retailer investing along that stretch of McAllen. Commercial filings recorded in September show an 11,000-square-foot Dollar Tree buildout underway at the Northcross Shopping Center at 4117 N. 10th St., a project that involves combining adjacent retail suites and installing new mechanical and electrical systems, with completion expected in December, according to RGV.me.
Target has run this remodel playbook elsewhere in Texas too. State permit filings tracked by Zabalist show the company completed a $2.1 million interior overhaul at its 6128 Broadway Street store in Galveston earlier this year. Compared to that Galveston project and the $4.2 million Nolana Avenue overhaul, the North 10th Street remodel budget is modest, but it's aimed at bringing the store's sales floor finishes, lighting, and fixtures up to Target's current prototype standards.
