Cars are rolling into Novi this weekend for the second annual Shiny Rust Hot Rod Spectacular. The lineup spans vintage classics, hot rods, customs and drag cars.
The show runs October 17 and 18 at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace, according to ClickOnDetroit, which previewed the lineup with event organizer Randy Adam. Adam told the station the weekend will be an awesome time, and that he hopes it helps draw younger generations into the car scene he's been part of since childhood, when he started out building model cars. The event is being promoted, per Adam, as a family-friendly and cost-effective way to spend the weekend.
From Movie Cars to a Transforming Toy Beetle
Beyond Eleanor, one of the quirkier entries on the floor is a 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle modified to look like a wind-up toy car. Press a button, and its body lifts to reveal the hot rod mechanics hidden underneath, a detail ClickOnDetroit highlighted as one of the show's standout attractions. It's the kind of build that underscores the show's pitch to casual fans and die-hard gearheads alike, not just static classics but working, surprising machinery.
A Fast Rise From Waterford to Novi
The Shiny Rust Hot Rod Spectacular is still a young event by Metro Detroit car-show standards. It launched in November 2025 as a two-day show at the Oakland Expo Center in Waterford Township, where the inaugural edition featured more than 200 custom and classic vehicles, per the Oakland Expo Center's event calendar. For its second edition, the show is being held at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi.
Weekend extras include racing simulators and a pin-up contest.

The venue itself has a new name this year. The Vibe Credit Union Showplace rebrand took effect January 1, 2026, after the Novi facility's operators signed a naming-rights deal with Vibe Credit Union, a change Hoodline reported at the time. The complex remains Michigan's second-largest convention center, trailing only Detroit's Huntington Place.
