The case echoes a separate Bronx transit robbery reported in 2019: bronx.news12.com reported that police are searching for a man wanted in a separate cellphone robbery inside the Hunts Point Avenue subway station. It's not clear whether the two cases are connected.
Part of a Broader Pattern in the Bronx
The Hunts Point corridor has seen a cluster of robbery complaints in recent months. PIX11 reported that the NYPD logged eight robbery incidents in the Bronx from Sept. 5 to 9 alone, concentrated around Starlight Park, Hunts Point and Longwood within the 41st, 42nd and 43rd precincts.
Hoodline previously reported on a knifepoint robbery in which an 18-year-old man was robbed on the northbound platform of the East 180th Street subway station, with his attacker fleeing with his cellphone, credit card and cash. That report also noted that citywide transit crime complaints rose 1.7% year to date, with 1,737 complaints logged compared to 1,708 over the same stretch in 2025, even as overall major felony crime citywide was down 6.6% through the week ending October 18, according to NYPD CompStat data.
Mixed Signals on Transit Safety
Transit crime trends elsewhere in the system have told a complicated story this year. ABC7 New York reported that transit robberies were up 15% year to date as of April, rising to 136 compared with 118 over the same period the previous year, even as transit felonies overall were down 1.5% and assaults were down 5.5%. Police at the time pointed to added patrols, noting plans to add 175 officers underground on top of 750 officers added by the governor, and said 2025 had been the safest year on the subways since 2009.
Robbery sprees targeting No. 6 train riders are not new to the line. QNS reported that two men were arrested back in February 2008 in connection with a string of robberies that occurred on the No. 6 train between the Westchester Square and Pelham Bay Park stations, with police saying the suspects displayed a weapon to passengers and demanded property in five separate incidents between Jan. 19 and Feb. 2 of that year.
No arrests have been reported in Wednesday's robbery. Anyone with information is urged to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
