An Oak Hills High School student was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking to school in Green Township. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Lawrence Road, a few hundred feet west of Moondridge Drive, according to police.
The driver stayed at the scene following the crash, according to a report from FOX19. Police said alcohol, drugs and speed are not believed to be factors at this time, though the investigation remains active.
Investigation Continues Into Lawrence Road Crash
Green Township police have not released additional details about what led up to the collision as the investigation continues, Capt. Mitch Hill said, per the same report. No information about the student's identity, age or current condition has been made public, and no citation or charge has been confirmed in connection with the crash.
The driver's identity, vehicle and any test results also have not been disclosed. It is not yet known whether the student was in a crosswalk, on a sidewalk, or elsewhere along the roadway when the crash occurred.
A Second, Unrelated Oak Hills Tragedy
The news comes amid a separate and unrelated case involving another Oak Hills High School student. Conner Cain died on a Tuesday after being seriously injured in a traffic crash the day before near 2801 River Road, according to WCPO. Cincinnati police said Cain was driving westbound on River Road when he crossed the double yellow line and struck a Ford F-150 driven by 26-year-old Kenneth Orloff.
Cain was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries and later died, while Orloff suffered only minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene, WCPO reported. The crashes are not connected; they involved students from the same high school community about eight years apart.
Tools Exist To Track Crash Patterns Near Schools
Ohio offers several public resources meant to help identify dangerous stretches of road near schools. The Ohio Department of Transportation maintains maps outlining crashes and boundaries immediately surrounding school buildings, with locations prioritized for safety improvements based on analyzed crash data, according to ODOT. The agency also provides township-road crash locations, Safe Routes to School radius maps and crash-analysis tools through a separate highway safety portal.
Separately, the Ohio State Highway Patrol's crash dashboard offers five years of statewide crash statistics that can be viewed by severity, roadway, time of day, day of week and month, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. No location-specific crash trend for Lawrence Road or the area surrounding Oak Hills High School has been verified in connection with Monday's incident.
Green Township police have not released further updates since the initial report. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to follow updates from local authorities as the investigation moves forward.
