Oakland Cemetery is marking two decades of after-dark Halloween storytelling this month. Capturing the Spirit of Oakland returns for tours running October 15 through 18 and again October 22 through 25, 2026, giving ticket holders two separate weekends to walk the historic grounds after sundown.
The event is celebrating its 20th year with after-dark tours, according to Atlanta News First, which described the celebration as a mix of Atlanta history and Halloween magic. The station put it simply: “If you love Atlanta history with a side of Halloween magic, Oakland Cemetery has a celebration you don’t want to miss!”
Each tour covers roughly one mile of ground and runs about 75 minutes, according to the official event page. Along the way, visitors can hear about “a few of the fascinating characters who made Atlanta into the city we know today,” per the same listing.
History and Theater Converge for 20th Edition
Organizers describe the milestone year as a convergence of “history, theatre, and the thrill of Halloween,” per the event listing. The cemetery’s own account of planning the season notes that the tours bring forward “many previously unknown stories (and a few better known),” as described in a post on the cemetery’s blog, Diary of a Cemetery CEO.
The cemetery’s listing includes drink tickets in premium bundles.
Tickets, Access and Proceeds
Reservations are required, with ticket options priced at $45, $30 and $95, according to the official event page. Ticket purchases support the Historic Oakland Foundation’s mission to preserve, restore, enhance and share the historic cemetery grounds, per the event page.
Visitors arriving by transit can reach the cemetery’s main gate in about seven to 10 minutes on foot from the King Memorial MARTA Station, according to the official event listing. The event page also notes that ticket purchases are not refundable, and that only service animals are permitted on the grounds.
