Omaha woke to cloudy skies Tuesday, with morning temperatures in the 60s and scattered showers possible before the afternoon high reaches about 65. The bigger change is down the road, as repeated rain chances build from Thursday night into Halloween weekend.
Tuesday Stays Gray, But Not A Washout
Tuesday brings a 40% chance of rain showers, mostly cloudy skies and light west winds of 3 to 7 mph. The National Weather Service Omaha/Valley says rainfall totals should generally remain modest, though areas southeast of Interstate 80 could see as much as half an inch through the afternoon.
Tonight will remain mostly cloudy, with a 20% chance of showers between roughly 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday. Temperatures should settle near 55 degrees, with a south wind around 6 mph.
Warm Wednesday Leads Into A Wetter Stretch
Wednesday offers a brief warm rebound, with partly sunny skies and a high near 77 degrees. Southerly winds will run 7 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph, before Thursday turns mostly sunny and cooler with a high near 71.
The next rainmaker arrives Thursday night, when showers and thunderstorms become likely with a 60% chance of precipitation. Friday looks even wetter, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 73.
Halloween Weekend May Need A Backup Plan
Showers and thunderstorms are also expected Friday night, while Saturday brings a 70% chance of rain showers and a high near 67 degrees, particularly in the southeastern half of the forecast area. Halloween evening should be mainly dry, though a stray shower is possible. Anyone with outdoor Halloween plans may want to keep an indoor option handy, because the forecast is leaning more damp than dramatic.
Sunday provides a short breather with partly sunny skies and a high near 69, though a slight chance of showers returns. Rain chances rise again Sunday night and Monday, when showers are expected; Monday’s east-southeast winds will gust up to 26 mph.
The updated outlook is a wetter turn from Monday’s Omaha forecast, which had already pointed toward a stormier Halloween weekend. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for the Omaha area in the current forecast.
