An Omaha judge sentenced Keanu Louis to life in prison this week for the 2022 murder of 20-year-old DaeTiauna Kellogg, closing out a case that took nearly four years, a mistrial, and a cross-country manhunt to resolve. Louis was found guilty on all four counts against him after a retrial in August, following a first trial that collapsed when jurors deadlocked.
Kellogg was killed near 49th Avenue and Miami Street in Omaha, according to court documents cited by KETV. Police said at the time that she was rushed to Nebraska Medical Center with extremely critical injuries and later died, according to KETV. Louis was 19 when Kellogg was killed, and he later fled to Seattle, where he was eventually arrested, as reported by WOWT.
A Case That Took Two Trials to Resolve
Louis's path to conviction was not straightforward. His first trial ended in a mistrial in March 2026 after the jury deadlocked 10-2, per the same WOWT account. Prosecutors retried him months later, and the station reported that the retrial jury received its instructions on Aug. 13, then returned with questions about the evidence before reaching its verdict the following day.
That August verdict found Louis guilty on all four charges: first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, unlawful possession of a firearm by a juvenile offender, and criminal conspiracy, according to court documents referenced in KETV's sentencing report. A separate account from theindependent.com reported that Louis would be sentenced to life in prison following the first-degree murder conviction, a outcome the judge has now carried out.
A Killing Tied to a $200 Robbery
According to theindependent.com, Kellogg's death stemmed from an effort to cover up a $200 robbery.
Co-Defendant Sentenced Separately
Cameron Foster, a co-defendant in the case, was also convicted and sentenced separately from Louis. KETV reported that a judge sentenced Foster to 40 to 70 years behind bars for attempted murder and attempted robbery. A separate WOWT report stated that Foster was sentenced to 30 to 50 years in prison after pleading no contest to attempted second-degree murder in connection with Kellogg's death, with credit for 1,121 days already served. The two accounts differ on the length of Foster's sentence, and that discrepancy is not resolved here.
Louis's case moved through Nebraska's courts over nearly four years, from the November 2022 shooting through his arrest in Seattle, an initial trial that ended without a verdict, and the August 2026 retrial that finally produced convictions on every count he faced. With sentencing now complete, the case that began with a police response to a shots-fired call near 49th and Miami has reached its final chapter in the Omaha court system.
