Boston is starting Friday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures near 68 degrees, but the city is headed for one last warm push before fall takes over. The high should reach about 81, with mostly sunny skies for much of the day before showers move in late.
Showers Arrive After The Warmest Hours
The National Weather Service Boston/Norton office expects a slight chance of showers after 5 p.m., with the chance rising to about 40% Friday evening. A few downpours could be briefly heavy, and an isolated rumble of thunder is possible as the front passes through.
Southwest winds will run 10 to 15 mph during the day, then shift northwest tonight as temperatures fall to around 57. Showers could linger before midnight, but rainfall totals are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service Boston/Norton.
Saturday Offers The Best Outdoor Window
Saturday looks like the weekend standout, with sunny skies and a high near 66. Winds will turn northeast around 8 mph, and Saturday night should be mostly clear with a low around 51.
Sunday stays mostly sunny but cooler, topping out near 62, with a slight chance of showers Sunday night. That is a sharper turn than Hoodline's earlier forecast, as the latest outlook now points to a more pronounced chill arriving early next week.
Chilly Nights Take Over Next Week
Monday should be mostly sunny with a high near 67, followed by a colder night around 46. Tuesday is forecast to be sunny but brisk, with a high near 58 and a low around 43 before temperatures moderate slightly by midweek.
Boaters should also keep an eye on conditions, with a Small Craft Advisory posted for portions of the southern New England waters beginning Friday morning and extending into Friday evening or early Saturday. For most city residents, though, the practical forecast is simple: enjoy Friday's warmth, plan around late showers, and keep a jacket nearby this weekend.
