An international investigative lead helped New York authorities identify a Lyons man now facing charges in two separate cases: rape allegations involving a Geneva woman and federal child sexual abuse material charges tied to a 9-year-old in Seneca County. The cases involve different alleged victims and locations; investigators say digital evidence helped connect them to Bradley Orlopp, 38.
According to 13 WHAM’s reporting on officials’ statements and court documents, Europol sent New York State Police an investigative lead in March identifying Orlopp as a member of an online chat group devoted to the rape and sexual assault of incapacitated women. Court documents cited by the station say investigators recognized Orlopp in a Telegram video from his tattooed hands.
Digital evidence, separate allegations
Authorities allege that Orlopp subjected a Geneva woman to sexual activity without her consent on multiple occasions. He was arrested and charged with rape in connection with that case. After identifying him, investigators searched social media accounts and devices and found images and videos that, according to the charges, depicted him sexually abusing a 9-year-old in Seneca County. He faces federal charges of producing and possessing child sexual abuse material.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York describes the internet as a means for offenders to meet, trade files and access children to victimize. That is broad background on online exploitation, not evidence that the office’s description refers specifically to Orlopp’s alleged conduct or that any particular online platform or task force was involved in this case. The office’s overview is available here.
Other investigations offer comparisons, not proof of a link to this case. Europol said its Project Medusa, launched in April 2026, focused on drug-facilitated sexual assaults primarily in intimate-partner settings and identified 156 victims and perpetrators; Europol’s announcement does not connect the project to Orlopp. Separately, CNN reported on July 3, 2026, on a seven-country operation into networks that used online chat groups to facilitate assaults on drugged partners. Those were distinct investigations, with different allegations and victims.
Orlopp has a prior conviction involving a minor. The New York sex offender registry, as reported by 13 WHAM, lists a 2014 conviction for raping a 15-year-old in Wayne County and a sentence of three and a half years. The registry classifies him as a Level 3 sex offender. He was detained after an initial appearance in federal court on the new charges, according to the reporting. The charges are allegations; the available account does not establish the outcome of either case.
