Three people were hospitalized after flames tore through a home on the 3900 block of Warfield Drive in Lower Moreland Township early Friday, leaving the home significantly damaged and the attached garage and a vehicle inside it seemingly destroyed. First responders were called to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. and found smoke and flames pouring from the roof of the property.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the home was significantly damaged in the blaze, with the connected garage and the car parked inside it apparently destroyed as well. Crews managed to bring the fire under control by about 1:15 a.m., roughly 45 minutes after the first call went out, according to the same report.
Lower Moreland’s fire protection is provided by the Huntingdon Valley Fire Company, a nonprofit volunteer organization founded in 1911 and chartered the following year. The company serves residents and businesses in the township as well as nearby communities, and the township lists more than 30 active volunteers. The fire company’s role provides local context for the response, though officials have not publicly identified which crews attended the Warfield Drive fire. The township’s profile of the company also describes its fire-prevention programs and community safety work.
What Remains Unknown About the Victims
Three people were injured in the fire and taken to the hospital, but officials had not clarified whether they were inside the property when the fire began or were firefighters responding to the scene, the station's report notes. That detail, along with the identities and conditions of those hospitalized, had not been made public as of Friday morning.
The cause of the fire also remained undetermined. Officials had not immediately said what may have sparked the blaze, and an investigation into the fire was still ongoing, per the same account.
The township has a Fire Marshal’s Office with a role in investigating fires after they occur. The fire marshal administers the International Fire Code and conducts post-fire investigations. The township’s description of the Fire Marshal’s Office lists post-fire investigations among its duties.
Scope of the Damage Still Being Assessed
What is clear is the physical toll on the property itself: the home was significantly damaged, while the garage and a vehicle inside it were seemingly destroyed after less than an hour of firefighting before crews got the upper hand. Beyond that, though, authorities have not released further details on the extent of the damage or what comes next for the residents of the Warfield Drive address.
Hoodline will update this story as Lower Moreland Township officials release additional information on the cause of the fire and the condition of those hospitalized.
