A fire early Sunday destroyed a house and garage in the 3000 block of Aquila Avenue South in St. Louis Park. Both structures appeared to be a total loss. Everyone inside escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters responded at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, according to yahoo.com. The report also said a neighboring home sustained some damage.
Possible Garage Origin
Authorities believe the fire may have started in a detached garage before spreading to the house, according to the same report. The origin has not been confirmed.
Cause Not Yet Determined
Authorities are investigating, but no cause has been established, the report said.
What fire-safety guidance says
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s State Fire Marshal Division says that without a working smoke alarm, chances of surviving a house fire are cut in half. The account of the Aquila Avenue fire does not say whether alarms were present or played a role in the evacuation: Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The U.S. Fire Administration says garage fires tend to spread farther and cause more injuries and dollar loss than fires starting in other areas of a home. That general safety information does not establish how the Aquila Avenue fire began or spread.
