Grand Rapids is about to get its first taste of Paris Baguette, with the global bakery chain planning a $2 million cafe near Breton Village. The new location is set for Burton Street, inside a former Rite Aid pharmacy that once anchored the busy corner of Burton and Breton roads.
The project was first detailed by Crain's Grand Rapids Business, which reported that the Burton Street cafe will occupy the former Rite Aid pharmacy building. The specific address, 2410 Burton St. SE, sits at the corner of Burton and Breton roads, according to SW Reinvestment, which also notes the high-visibility property underwent a renovation in 2025.
Paris Baguette won't be the only new tenant moving into that old pharmacy. Chipotle is also claiming part of the same building, according to WGRD, which reported the burrito chain will take up 2,600 square feet of the roughly 11,000-square-foot structure and add a drive-thru. That Chipotle, listed at the same 2410 Burton St. SE address, was expected to open June 2, 2026, per the station's report, and would mark the chain's sixth Kent County location. WGRD also notes the remaining storefronts in the building are expected to eventually house additional food or retail tenants, and that another Grand Rapids-area Chipotle is planned near the Standale Meijer on Wilson Avenue.
A Bigger West Michigan Rollout
The Burton Street cafe is just one piece of a much larger push into the region. Bret and Shelby Feaster, along with other investors, plan to bring six Paris Baguette locations to West Michigan, according to a September 2025 report from MLive. That plan calls for two cafes in Kalamazoo County and four in the Grand Rapids area, with each location expected to run around 4,000 square feet.
The investors told the outlet they hoped to open the first West Michigan location by May 2026 and then add two or three more per year, with all six expected to be up and running within three to four years. Progress is already visible south of Grand Rapids: a new 3,649-square-foot Paris Baguette building has been going up at 7545 S. Westnedge Ave. in Portage, MLive reported in July. As of that report, the company's website had not yet announced an opening date for the Portage location.
Rapid National Growth
Paris Baguette's West Michigan ambitions fit into a much faster-moving national expansion. The chain now operates more than 4,000 locations worldwide, according to Chain Store Age, and opened 77 new stores in 2025 alone, including a record 14 in December. The company also signed 101 new leases and nearly 300 development agreements last year.
Looking ahead, Paris Baguette expects to open 150 new cafes in 2026 while expanding into 10 new U.S. states, Canadian provinces and territories, Chain Store Age reports. The company has set a long-term goal of reaching 1,000 North American locations by 2030 and broke ground in 2025 on its first North American bakery manufacturing plant in Burleson, Texas. The chain's CEO pointed to the company's 250th location and nearly 80 new cafe openings as major milestones for 2025.
For now, Grand Rapids residents will have to watch the old Rite Aid site for construction progress, as no opening date has been announced for the Burton Street cafe.
