A pedestrian was left in critical condition Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle near South Jones Boulevard and West Rochelle Avenue, according to police. The crash happened just after 8 p.m. in the Spring Valley area, and the pedestrian was transported to a hospital in critical condition, police say.
As reported by FOX5 Vegas, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the Jones Boulevard and Rochelle Avenue intersection. FOX5 reported that the vehicle was a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC and that its driver remained at the scene and was not impaired. Officers remained at the scene conducting their investigation. The outlet described the case as a developing story, with no further information immediately available.
A Troubling Pattern Along the Tropicana Corridor
Serious pedestrian crashes have been reported along the Tropicana corridor in recent weeks. On Monday night, September 14, a pedestrian was hospitalized in critical condition following a collision near Tropicana Avenue and Duneville Street, close to Jones Boulevard and roughly one mile south of the Flamingo Road intersection, according to Hoodline's coverage of that incident. A companion report at the time said the circumstances of how the pedestrian entered the roadway had not been detailed publicly.
South Jones Boulevard and West Flamingo Road are in Spring Valley.
An Earlier Metro Traffic Fatality
An earlier fatal crash marked Metro's 86th traffic-related death.
The pattern extends beyond Jones Boulevard. Earlier this year, Hoodline reported that a teen was struck by a car near Cactus and Jones, the same corner where another crash had occurred in May, and that a crash from March at Sahara Avenue and Jones Boulevard was later ruled fatal after an 86-year-old victim died in May.
Statewide Numbers Show Improvement, But Gaps Remain
Traffic safety remains an issue statewide, including pedestrian safety in Clark County.
Pedestrian safety also remains a national concern. The Nevada Department of Transportation's 2026–2030 Strategic Highway Safety Plan sets a statewide goal of cutting fatal and serious injury crashes by 35% by 2035, with a longer-term target of zero traffic deaths by 2050.
What Nevada Law Requires at the Crosswalk
Nevada Revised Statutes Section 484B.283 requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks. Separately, Section 484B.287 requires pedestrians crossing outside a marked or unmarked intersection crosswalk to yield to vehicles, and it prohibits mid-block crossing between adjacent signal-controlled intersections.
Section 484B.280 requires drivers to exercise due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians. Police said the pedestrian crossed South Jones Boulevard north of West Rochelle Avenue outside a marked or implied crosswalk; whether speed played a role remains unknown, and police said the driver was not impaired. Police have not said whether citations or charges will follow once the investigation concludes.
