Firebirds Wood Fired Grill has closed its Plano restaurant at 5400 State Hwy 121, shutting the doors for good on Oct. 24 after nearly three years in business. The upscale steakhouse, known for hand-cut aged steaks, fresh seafood, burgers and salads, served its last guests there that Saturday, bringing a quiet end to a Plano run that began in 2023.
According to Community Impact, the restaurant closed nearly three years after it first opened in Plano. A Firebirds spokesperson told the outlet the company had accepted a lease transfer offer for the Plano site, though no further explanation for the closure was given.
Firebirds itself confirmed the timeline on its website, stating plainly that “October 24, 2026 was our last day serving guests there,” and that the company “accepted a lease transfer offer for our Plano restaurant.” The brand did not name who made or received that offer, and it remains unclear what, if anything, will take over the space.
What Plano Diners Are Losing
The Plano location built its menu around wood-fired cooking, offering diners hand-cut aged steaks alongside seafood, burgers and salads. The bar program leaned into signature cocktails, including the Siesta Sangria and the Firebirds Perfect Margarita, per the restaurant's own description cited by Community Impact.
Firebirds opened its first Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant in the Alliance area back in 2022, according to WhatNow, which reported at the time that the Plano location was expected to employ about 100 people once it opened. That report did not specify what became of staffing levels as the Plano restaurant wound down.
Two Locations Remain Open
Firebirds continues to operate two other North Texas restaurants, one in Grapevine and another in the Alliance area of Fort Worth, the company confirmed. The Fort Worth location sits across from Alliance Town Center and serves the same style of hand-cut aged steaks and fresh seafood, along with specialty cocktails and select wines, according to the restaurant's own site. That Fort Worth spot also runs weekday bar bites and drink specials in its Firebar and on its patio from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Firebirds invited former Plano customers to make the trip to one of those two remaining restaurants, saying it hopes “to see you again soon” at the Grapevine and Fort Worth Alliance locations. Guests holding Plano gift cards don't need to worry about losing their value either — a Firebirds spokesperson said the cards remain good at any of the company's other locations.
Part of a Broader Closure Trend
The Plano closure lands amid a rough stretch for North Texas dining. Texas had the most restaurant closures in the nation during the first half of 2026, according to data reported by The Dallas Morning News, with the Dallas-Fort Worth metro ranking third nationally behind only New York and Chicago. Plano itself has seen other high-profile exits recently: Flamant, an ambitious restaurant at the Boardwalk at Granite Park, closed in mid-October, according to CultureMap Dallas.
For now, Firebirds fans in Plano are left with a drive to Grapevine or Fort Worth's Alliance area to get their fix of wood-fired steaks and margaritas. Details on what comes next for the vacated 5400 State Hwy 121 space have not been made public.
