A fusion tea cafe funded by two brothers who once ranked among the world's top online poker cash game winners has opened its first Maryland location on Rockville Pike, bringing ube tres leches cake, pandan-filled donuts, and a matcha blend it calls the world's first oolong matcha to a storefront previously occupied by two tea shops in the two years before Teas'n You moved in.
Teas'n You's new shop sits at 838 Rockville Pike, Unit C, marking the chain's second-ever location and its first outside Virginia, according to The Baltimore Banner. The cafe is backed by Di Dang and Hac Dang, brothers who won millions of dollars playing online poker before pivoting into the restaurant business, the Banner reports. That online poker windfall was no small sum: according to High Stakes Database tracking cited by the Washingtonian, Di Dang, who played under the handle urindanger, and Hac Dang, known as Trex313, accumulated nearly $14 million in combined cash game winnings and ranked among the top ten all-time online cash game winners during the late 2000s.
The brothers co-founded DMV-based Happy Endings Hospitality, which now funds several fast-casual restaurant brands including Teas'n You, per the Banner's reporting. The group's first restaurant wasn't a tea shop at all — it was Chasin' Tails, a Louisiana-style Cajun seafood eatery that opened in Arlington, Virginia in April 2012. The owners fired their first general manager within two months of opening, working through slow winter crowds and early service delays before the concept found its footing, the news outlet notes.
A Decade of Cheeky Branding
Chasin' Tails became the seed for a broader hospitality group built on suggestive, pun-heavy names. Nation's Restaurant News reports that Happy Endings Hospitality's portfolio now includes Chasin' Tails, Roll Play, Teas'n You, Lei'd Island Kitchen, and Nue — French for nude. Co-founder Tuyêt Nhi Lê and the Dang brothers intentionally leaned into suggestive naming across every concept to stand out in the crowded DMV dining market, according to the same report.
Nue, the group's upscale Vietnamese restaurant that opened in Falls Church in April 2023, carries personal weight beyond the wordplay. Lê named it in honor of a 1931 nude painting by her great-great-uncle, celebrated Vietnamese artist Lê Phổ, a work that fetched $1.4 million at Christie's in 2019, according to Arlington Magazine. The restaurant represented the group's push into fine dining alongside its fast-casual concepts.
That scaling has been aided by operational shortcuts, too. In 2022, Happy Endings Hospitality signed a 7,500-square-foot multi-concept lease at Founders Row in Falls Church, building a shared central kitchen that powers three brands at once — Chasin' Tails, Roll Play, and Nue — as reported by Commercial Observer. The hub-and-spoke kitchen model took shape during post-pandemic retail leasing at Mill Creek Residential's Founders Row development. Hoodline previously reported that sister brand Roll Play, a fast-casual Vietnamese concept, generates roughly $5 million in gross annual revenue per storefront, citing Nation's Restaurant News, as the chain grew to locations in Tysons and Rosslyn, with a Fairfax location slated to open in November 2026: Fairfax.
From Tysons Flagship to a Rockville Debut
Teas'n You itself dates back to May 2017, when the original location opened on Leesburg Pike in Vienna/Tysons, Virginia, offering fruit-infused teas, boba, and Asian fusion pastries developed by pastry chef Lysa Thuy Pham, according to Northern Virginia Magazine. That flagship built late-night hours and a local cult following over the years before the brand finally crossed into Maryland nine years later.
The Rockville cafe's menu leans into the fusion identity the Banner describes: Asian snacks and drinks blended with Latin American, European and U.S. flavors. Fall seasonal items include ube tres leches cake, a Vietnamese coffee-based tiramisu brownie, black sesame Portuguese egg tarts, and pumpkin spice chai milk tea, per the Banner. The bakery case also rotates in strawberry cupcakes, Cookie Monster cookies, and pandan-filled donuts, while the drink menu covers milk tea with tapioca boba, fruit teas, Vietnamese coffee, and a lychee berry slushy.
Matcha drinkers get mango, blue butterfly tea, and horchata variations, and the cafe markets its oolong matcha as what it calls the world's first oolong matcha, the Banner reports. For something savory, Teas'n You serves halal fried chicken as basil popcorn chicken or a Taiwanese chicken sandwich, available mild or spicy. The shop is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with plans to extend hours into the late night, according to the outlet.
A Crowded Corner of Rockville Pike
The 838 Rockville Pike address has seen heavy turnover before Teas'n You moved in. The unit previously housed Hong Kong-style milk tea shop Cuppa Tea, which closed in June 2026 after operating in the space for just over a year, and before that, Tea-Do X Mochinut, which shut down in October 2024, according to The MoCo Show.
Teas'n You marked its official Maryland debut with a grand opening weekend starting September 26, featuring buy-one-get-one-free drink deals and free cupcakes for early visitors, the outlet reported. That launch date had actually been pushed back from an earlier planned opening on September 12. Rockville Pike remains a fiercely competitive stretch for Asian beverage spots, drawing both independent fusion cafes and major international chains like China-based HeyTea, according to Store Reporter, which notes the corridor has seen continuous tea house openings and tenant turnover over the past decade. For Happy Endings Hospitality, landing a foothold on that stretch marks the clearest sign yet that a poker windfall turned restaurant empire is ready to bet beyond Virginia's borders.
