Police sought the public's help identifying a suspect in a luggage theft case at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport reported in March.
Separately, cleveland19.com reported in the spring that police were seeking help identifying a suspect wanted for luggage theft from the airport on March 27.
Police Asked For Tips In Earlier Luggage Case
In the earlier March case, cleveland19.com reported that police asked anyone with information to contact the First District Detective Unit or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 216-252-7463.
Thefts at Cleveland Hopkins have drawn sustained scrutiny over the past couple of years, extending well beyond stolen luggage. According to local12.com, at least 14 vehicles had been stolen from the airport since January 1, 2025. Fox 8's I-Team has also reported that luggage thefts at Hopkins have occurred at various hours, from midday to after midnight, prompting the airport to put additional attention down at bag belts to help minimize the thefts.
A Pattern Of Airport Theft Cases
The scale of some prior cases tied to the airport has been significant. A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted three men last year in a 64-count case alleging the theft or attempted theft of more than 70 vehicles, many of them from long-term parking at Cleveland Hopkins, according to cleveland.com. Prosecutors in that case said 24 of the vehicles were stolen specifically from the airport's parking lot; the broader case involved vehicles with an estimated total value exceeding $1 million.
Appeals to the public for help identifying airport theft suspects are not new either. Cleveland19.com reported in 2022 that police sought the public's help identifying a suspect who, around 11:50 a.m. on a Sunday, exited a GCRTA train, walked to a baggage carousel and stole a passenger's luggage. That case illustrates how long these kinds of identification requests have been part of policing at Hopkins, even as the specifics of Thursday's case — including what was allegedly stolen and the current status of the investigation — remain undisclosed by police.
