A 60-year-old man who may need medication has not been seen since he walked out of his southeast Portland home two days ago, and police say their search efforts so far have come up empty. Yuriy Shevyakov left his house near Southeast Holgate Boulevard at about 6 p.m. Friday and never returned, prompting investigators to turn to the public for leads.
Last Seen Leaving Powellhurst-Gilbert Home
Shevyakov lives in the 12100 block of Southeast Holgate Boulevard, in Portland's Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, according to katu.com. He left around 6 p.m. Friday, October 23, and has not been found since, with police saying efforts to locate him have been unsuccessful. He is described as a white man standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds.
At the time he disappeared, Shevyakov was wearing a beige cap, a blue checkered shirt, a blue suit jacket, black pants and black shoes, the station's report states. Those details are the clearest physical markers police have released as they ask residents to keep an eye out for him around the neighborhood and beyond.
Language Barrier and No Phone Complicate Search
Shevyakov primarily speaks Russian and has limited English, which could make it harder for him to ask for help or communicate his situation if approached by strangers, per the same account. He also has no phone and no money with him, though he is said to be familiar with the region's transit system, meaning he could potentially be riding buses or trains rather than staying on foot.
According to KPTV, Shevyakov has a medical condition that requires medication, and he does not have that medication with him. That detail has driven the urgency behind the police appeal, as officers work to locate him before the situation becomes more dangerous.
How to Report a Sighting
Anyone who spots Shevyakov is asked to call 911 immediately rather than approach him directly. For non-emergency information about his whereabouts, people can email the Portland Police Missing Persons Unit at [email protected] and reference case number 26-309433.
