NYPD Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help after a 60-year-old man was attacked and robbed inside Prospect Park earlier this month. The victim suffered minor injuries, according to the agency.

The NYPD Crime Stoppers notice places the attack near East Drive and Center Drive.

The notice says the attack happened Monday, October 12, at approximately 8 p.m. Two people approached the victim, knocked him down and struck him with tree branches. They took $145 and left on foot, the agency said.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his head, knees and hands, per the wanted notice. NYPD Crime Stoppers has not released descriptions of the two individuals believed to be responsible, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the attack.

Separate Robbery Reports Around the Park

The incident comes amid other robbery reports tied to the Prospect Park area. News 12 Brooklyn has reported that police were separately looking for five suspects connected to a robbery spree around the park, in which money and other valuables were allegedly stolen from victims. It remains unclear whether that spree is connected to the October 12 attack on the 60-year-old man.

News 12 Brooklyn reported that on July 27, 2024, a 27-year-old man was slashed with a box cutter near Prospect Park’s bandshell during an attempted robbery. The suspect fled without taking property; that incident involved a different victim and circumstances from the October attack.

Robbery Figures and Park Safety

The NYPD’s 78th Precinct CompStat report lists 51 robbery complaints year to date in 2026, down 15% from 60 in 2025, according to NYPD CompStat. Those precinct-wide figures do not establish a trend inside Prospect Park or provide a comparison with Brooklyn overall. For assistance in the park, the Prospect Park Alliance advises visitors to use a yellow police call box or flag down Parks or Parks Enforcement Patrol personnel; call 911 in an emergency.

CBS New York reported that on April 25, 2019, five men approached a 16-year-old near West Lake Drive and West Drive and took $8; the boy was not hurt. That was a separate incident involving a different victim and circumstances, and the reports cited here do not establish a connection to the October 12 attack.
