Flowstate Coffee Bar is preparing to open in Kansas City's Crossroads area in late 2026.
Flowstate's founder has spent 11 years working as a barista, roaster and educator. The shop describes itself as an independent, queer-owned coffee brand, a description posted on its own site. Apparition Coffee sells coffee roasted by Flowstate.
Flowstate emphasizes authentic connections with the community.

Fundraising for Equipment
Kingsley wants to focus on educating and mentoring baristas rather than just staffing shifts, and has said the business aims to provide quality products alongside a healthy work environment. That extends to compensation: Flowstate plans to hire staff with health benefits and paid time off, an uncommon promise for a shop this size.
Menu prices are intended to stay affordable and approachable. Kingsley put it directly to the Kansas City Star, saying customers should not need to spend $20 on a drink and a pastry.
Flowstate is raising funds to purchase equipment for the coffee bar. Coffee is available through the Flowstate website.
A Changing Stretch Of The Crossroads
Flowstate's arrival lands amid broader churn in the neighborhood. A half block of the East Crossroads was welcoming several new tenants this fall, according to KCUR, even as Rochester Brewing and Roasting Co. announced on social media the impending closure of its own Crossroads location, the Kansas City Star has separately reported.
