A premium New York fashion label is staking its first Kansas City claim on the Country Club Plaza. Rag & bone, known for its ready-to-wear, denim, footwear and accessories, is scheduled to open at 4712 Broadway Boulevard in spring 2027, marking the brand's first-ever storefront in the city.

The announcement came from Country Club Plaza, which confirmed the opening in a release detailed by the Kansas City Chamber. The Chamber describes the new shop as the latest first-to-market national retailer to join the Plaza's lineup, offering what it calls rag & bone's signature blend of “quality craftsmanship, timeless design, and modern edge.” The Chamber reiterated the same description in a post on X from its account, @kcchamber.

Rag & bone was founded in 2002 with the goal of fusing British roots with the energy of New York City's fashion scene, according to Yahoo News. The brand now operates more than 49 stores nationwide, the outlet reports, and Scott Keller of Gillon Property Group said the new Plaza shop will add “an elevated, contemporary offering” to the district's retail mix.

A Historic Shopping District Still Evolving

The Country Club Plaza traces back to 1923, when it opened as the first planned suburban shopping center built to accommodate shoppers arriving by car, per the Chamber's release. Today the district spans 15 blocks and roughly 1.3 million square feet of mixed-use retail space in the heart of Kansas City.

Keller told the Chamber that the Plaza has announced a number of new stores in 2026 and has averaged nearly one new opening a month since March. The same pace was echoed in Yahoo's reporting on the rag & bone announcement. Rag & bone's arrival follows a string of other 2026 debuts at the Plaza, including Love Shack Fancy, Veronica Beard, Skims, Evereve and J.H. & Sons, according to Yahoo's account.

Closures Give Way to a Wave of New Storefronts

The new openings come after a rockier stretch for the shopping district. KSHB reported that after a round of closures over the last few months, the Plaza is now seeing a wave of new businesses opening their doors. Separately, the Kansas City Business Journal reported the Plaza added multiple first-to-market tenants this year and has more on the way, noting that five retailers are being added under Gillon Property Group's plan for the property.

New businesses continue opening on the Plaza under Gillon Property Group's ownership, according to KMBC, which also reported that a redevelopment plan approved for the district would allow buildings as tall as 178 feet and add roughly 1,100 multifamily housing units. That larger redevelopment push underscores the scale of change underway at the Plaza even as individual storefronts like rag & bone's fill in piece by piece.

No additional details on rag & bone's exact opening date, store size or lease terms have been released. For now, Kansas City shoppers will have to wait until spring 2027 to get their first look at the brand's take on denim and ready-to-wear on Broadway Boulevard.
