Philadelphia is starting Saturday, October 17, under light rain and a raw north wind, with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees. The rain is a brief opening act, but the bigger story is the fast fall reset: a high near 54, gusty winds and a cold night ahead.
According to the National Weather Service, lingering showers should taper as the morning progresses, then skies are expected to clear after the morning. North winds of 15 to 20 mph could gust to 25 to 35 mph, and any new rainfall should remain under a tenth of an inch.
Saturday Night Turns Cold Across The Region
Saturday night will be mostly clear, with Philadelphia dropping to around 37 degrees. North winds are expected to be 10 knots or less. Freeze warnings are in effect farther north and west, including the Lehigh Valley, southern Poconos and far northwest New Jersey, where temperatures may reach or dip below freezing.
Sunshine Returns Sunday
Sunday looks like the weekend’s cleaner day, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 57 before temperatures dip to around 41 Sunday night. Monday should reach around 60 under mostly sunny skies, while Tuesday warms to about 67 and Wednesday and Thursday settle in the low-to-mid 60s.
Rain chances stay low across the city from Monday through Friday, and Friday should finish the stretch mostly sunny near 66 degrees. The forecast is a sharper update to Friday’s Hoodline forecast, extending the outlook from a one-day cooldown to a full week of crisp, mostly dry fall weather.
Coastal Storm Uncertainty Lingers
Forecasters are also watching a possible nor’easter developing off the southern Mid-Atlantic coast early next week. Coastal areas could face periods of gusty northeast winds, showers and flooding concerns, while significant inland impacts in Philadelphia do not currently look likely, although the storm’s track remains uncertain.
For Saturday errands and outdoor plans, a water-resistant layer will help early, while the wind will make the afternoon feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Sunday offers the better bet for parks, walks and fall events, though the morning will still feel decidedly late-fall.
