Charlotte is waking up to light rain Saturday, with a raw, windy day ahead as the remnants of Isaias push through the region. Showers are expected to continue into the afternoon, when fog, thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain could make travel and outdoor plans especially messy.
Rain And Strong Winds Build Saturday
Saturday's high should reach only about 69 degrees, with rain likely through the day and new rainfall totals around three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch in the Charlotte area. Northeast winds are expected to run 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph, while the National Weather Service's Greenville-Spartanburg office warns that saturated ground could make it easier for strong winds to bring down trees.
The heaviest weather may arrive from late afternoon into Saturday night, when showers and thunderstorms could produce another 1 to 2 inches of rain. The broader region faces flooding concerns, and drivers should never attempt to cross a flooded roadway, even if the water appears shallow.
Sunday Storms Give Way To Sunshine
Showers and thunderstorms are likely to linger into Sunday morning before gradually ending by midafternoon. Sunday should be warmer, with a high near 75 degrees, but gusty south winds and another quarter-inch to half-inch of rain could keep conditions unsettled.
The forecast has become more serious since Friday's Hoodline outlook, with heavier rainfall potential and clearer flooding and wind concerns now in the mix. The National Weather Service expects the main threats to ease by Sunday afternoon, though gusty winds may continue in places afterward.
Sunny, Warmer Stretch Arrives Monday
Once the storm system moves away, Charlotte's forecast takes a sharp turn. Monday should be sunny with a high near 81 degrees, followed by sunny skies and highs around 85 Tuesday and 84 Wednesday.
Mostly clear nights will bring lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s through the middle of next week. Thursday and Friday look quieter and milder, with sunny skies and highs near 78 degrees.
