A man was stabbed in the neck during a domestic dispute at a rental home near Rhododendron early Saturday, and the woman accused of attacking him is now being held in the Clackamas County Jail on $250,000 bail. Deputies say they arrived to find the victim bleeding from the wound and provided immediate first aid before paramedics rushed him to a Portland hospital for surgery.
The stabbing happened just before 1 a.m. on October 17 at a rental home on East Alpine Way, in the Mt. Hood Village area near Rhododendron in unincorporated Clackamas County, according to KGW-TV. The Outlook placed the home in the 65300 block of East Alpine Way. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office confirmed the response in a news release
describing deputies answering a call about a man stabbed in the area and arresting his girlfriend at the scene.
Responding deputies gave the victim emergency care for his neck wound before handing him off to paramedics, who transported him to a Portland hospital for surgery. The station's report states he is expected to make a full recovery.
Suspect Identified, Knife Recovered at the Scene
Law enforcement identified the suspect as 56-year-old Cheryl Renae Greenwade, who was booked on charges of assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and menacing, according to The Outlook. Deputies arrested Greenwade without incident as she stood near the doorway of the home's garage, and investigators recovered a blood-stained large kitchen knife inside the house, the paper reports.
Greenwade was booked into the Clackamas County Jail, where her bail was set at $250,000, per the same account. Open questions remain about whether prosecutors will ultimately pursue a more serious assault charge, and the rental home's exact status as a short-term vacation property or a primary residence has not been confirmed.
What Oregon Law Says About the Charges
Under Oregon Revised Statute 166.220, unlawful use of a weapon is a Class C felony carrying up to five years in prison and fines as high as $125,000, according to the Oregon State Legislature. Separately, causing physical injury to someone with a deadly or dangerous weapon can constitute Assault in the Second Degree under ORS 163.175, a Class B felony that triggers mandatory minimum sentencing under Oregon's Measure 11, according to the Powell Law P.C..
A Remote Corner of Clackamas County
Rhododendron is an unincorporated community in the Mt. Hood Corridor with a permanent population of roughly 250 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Emergency medical response for the area falls to Hoodland Fire District #74, which covers 45 square miles along Highway 26 from three stations and handles about 1,000 emergency calls a year, per Hoodland Fire District #74.
The incident also comes amid heightened regional attention to domestic violence enforcement. Earlier in October, a multi-agency sweep across Clackamas County led to the arrest of 18 domestic abuse offenders, illustrating the scale of ongoing enforcement efforts in the area.
The case follows other recent stabbing incidents in Clackamas County, including a 25-year stabbing sentence handed down last month and a murder conviction from a separate knife attack. No further details on Greenwade's court dates or the victim's ongoing recovery have been released.
