A 48-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty in Anderson County after a warrant accused him of kicking and punching three dogs, including slamming one into a metal cart. Jeremy Reese was confronted by officers at a library in Rocky Top on Monday, and the three dogs involved have not been found since.
According to WVLT, officers responded after receiving a complaint that Reese had hit three dogs multiple times. The warrant states officers spoke with Reese at the Rocky Top library that same day, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Warrant Details Repeated Blows
Per the warrant, Reese is accused of hitting all three dogs multiple times with a closed fist and slamming one of them into a metal cart. The document further alleges that as the animals tried to move away from him, Reese kicked and punched them again.
The station’s report does not specify where the alleged beating took place beyond Anderson County, nor does it name the dogs’ owner or give details about the animals themselves. Reese now faces a charge of animal cruelty tied to the incident.
Dogs Fled Before Animal Control Arrived
By the time Anderson County Animal Control responded to the scene following Reese’s arrest, all three dogs had already left the area and run off, the same account notes. Officers searched nearby but were unable to locate any of the animals.
It remains unknown whether the dogs have since been found or what condition they may be in. The Anderson County Animal Control and Care Center says its officers generally handle cases involving animal bites, cruelty and abuse, noise complaints, unsanitary conditions, and abandoned animals, according to the Anderson County, Tennessee government.
Case Still Developing
No information about Reese’s court date or whether additional charges could be filed has been released, the report states. There is also no public account yet from Reese or a defense attorney addressing the allegations.
The case remains open as investigators continue looking into the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and the whereabouts of the three missing dogs.
