Sacramento started Wednesday with mostly clear skies and temperatures around 57 degrees, but the calm morning is only a brief pause. Showers and thunderstorms remain possible through Thursday before a sunny, cooler weekend settles in.
Thunderstorm Chances Stretch Through Thursday
Wednesday’s high should reach about 71 degrees, with a 30% chance of showers beginning late Wednesday afternoon and a 40% chance Wednesday night. The National Weather Service places increased thunderstorm chances Wednesday afternoon and evening. Showers are possible in the city, while more active storms could bring brief heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds or small hail across the broader Sacramento Valley and foothills.
The National Weather Service Sacramento office says the strongest storm potential is focused on the foothills, southern Sacramento Valley and nearby terrain. Sacramento-area outdoor plans may not be a total washout, but a backup option will be useful, particularly late Wednesday.
Thursday Keeps The Umbrella Nearby
Thursday looks similarly unsettled, with a 40% chance of rain showers before 11 a.m. and showers or thunderstorms possible through the afternoon. The latest forecast calls for another round of light rain during the day, with additional showers possible Wednesday night and Thursday evening.
That is a storm setup also covered in Tuesday’s Hoodline forecast, which described storm chances Tuesday night and Wednesday, with unsettled weather Thursday. No watches, warnings or advisories are currently listed for Sacramento.
Sunny Weather Returns Friday
Friday brings the reset Sacramento usually waits for after a stormy stretch: mostly sunny skies and a high near 75. Winds turn northerly, and some gusts could reach around 30 mph in parts of the broader region, so lightweight outdoor items may need securing.
Saturday and Sunday look dry and mostly sunny, with afternoon highs around 73 degrees. Weekend overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-40s to upper 40s, making the early mornings noticeably cooler than the afternoons.
