San Jose is waking up to clear skies and a mild start Saturday, but temperatures will climb quickly toward a dangerous afternoon peak near 97 degrees. A Heat Advisory begins at 11 a.m. and will remain in effect through 10 p.m. Sunday, October 4, as the Santa Clara Valley settles into several days of late-summer heat.
Saturday Brings The Biggest Jolt
Saturday will be sunny, dry and nearly still in the morning, with temperatures rising from the low 60s early to the low 90s around midday. The hottest stretch arrives during the afternoon, when readings are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 90s before easing into the upper 60s overnight.
The National Weather Service says the advisory covers the Santa Clara Valley and nearby inland areas because of hot daytime temperatures and mild nights that will limit recovery. Residents are advised to drink water, wear lightweight clothing and move strenuous outdoor activity to the morning or evening.
Heat Hangs On Through Midweek
Sunday should be partly sunny and reach about 96 degrees, followed by a sunny Monday near 95. Tuesday and Wednesday are also forecast to top out around 95, while overnight lows remain mostly in the mid-to-upper 60s.
The latest outlook extends the heat story beyond the weekend forecast detailed in Hoodline's earlier report. A pattern change could begin Thursday.
Inland Valley Heat, Coastal Fog
San Jose's inland valley will be much hotter than the immediate coast, where a shallow marine layer may bring morning fog and lower temperatures. In the city, winds are expected to stay light.
Heat impacts can build quickly, especially for older adults, young children, people working outdoors and anyone without reliable cooling. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, and check on neighbors or relatives who may need help staying cool.
