Saosin is bringing its 20th-anniversary tour to Albuquerque's Sunshine Theater this Sunday, Oct. 25, with doors opening for a 7:30 p.m. show built around the band's gold-certified self-titled debut. Silent Planet, Like Moths to Flames and Save Us round out the bill at the venue, located at 120 Central Ave. SW, with tickets ranging from $39.50 to $93.50.
The band's self-titled 2006 album reached No. 22 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified gold by the RIAA, according to Blabbermouth. The milestone anchors a 28-city U.S. headline run announced this year, with Sonic Perspectives reporting the tour was unveiled as a celebration of the debut's anniversary. The Sunshine Theater's own listing confirms Saosin headlining alongside Silent Planet, Like Moths To Flames and Save Us.
A Historic Downtown Setting—and Another Anniversary Tour
The Sunshine Theater is housed in the Sunshine Building at 120 Central Ave. SW. According to the Sunshine Theater, the six-story building was built in 1924 with offices and a 920-seat movie theater, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 before being designated a city Historic Landmark. Saosin’s approach is one version of an album anniversary tour. As a separate precedent, Consequence reported that Thrice marked the 20th anniversary of The Artist in the Ambulance in 2023 with a North American run performing the album front to back, from May 18 in San Diego through June 23 in Anaheim, California.
A Founder Reflects on Two Decades
Guitarist Beau Burchell told the Albuquerque Journal the milestone feels different now than it would have when he was 20, before he understood how long a music career might last.
Burchell credited the band's staying power entirely to its fans, telling the paper that a career in music requires great fans and people willing to support the band. He added, pointedly, that Saosin simply cannot play if fans don't show up to concerts. For Burchell, the payoff is personal: he said he finds it powerful when thousands of people sing along, admitting it can bring him nearly to tears.
New Music Joins the Classics
The current lineup touring behind the anniversary includes Burchell and Phil Sgrosso on guitars, Chris Sorenson on bass and Alex Rodriguez on drums, per Sonic Perspectives. The band also released “Starting Over Again,” its first new music in more than a decade and the first track in 14 years to feature returning vocalist Cove Reber, according to Blabbermouth.
The anniversary set leans heavily on the self-titled album while making room for newer material, Burchell told the Albuquerque Journal. He named “You're Not Alone” as one of his favorite older songs to perform live.
Support Acts and a Late Lineup Shake-Up
Opening acts Silent Planet and Like Moths to Flames are set to perform alongside Save Us, but Save Us has faced last-minute complications. Members Chris and Benji were still unable to secure their visas ahead of the tour, according to a report from theprp.com. The band said Miguel would still join the tour despite the setback, with Nick Miller filling in on guitar, Abei Torres on bass and Roman of Like Moths to Flames sitting in on drums, according to a report from chaoszine.net.
For longtime fans who grew up on the self-titled record, Sunday's show offers a chance to hear those songs performed alongside the band's newest chapter. Tickets remain priced between $39.50 and $93.50 for the all-ages night at the Sunshine Theater.
