New Orleans police are investigating a shooting in the Seventh Ward after a victim showed up at a local hospital in a private vehicle shortly before 3:15 a.m. Monday. The shooting happened near the intersection of North Galvez and Frenchmen streets, and officials have not released details about what led up to it.

According to WWLTV.com, no additional information was immediately available about the shooting circumstances, the identity of any suspect, or the victim's condition. The outlet reported it reached out to the New Orleans Police Department for more information but had not received further details at the time of its report.

Monday's shooting is the latest in a string of Seventh Ward gunfire incidents this year that have drawn police to the neighborhood. In mid-September, officers responded to a shooting near North Dorgenois and Pauger streets, where, per WDSU, at least one person was shot and their condition remained unknown; police asked residents to avoid the area while the investigation was underway.

A Pattern of Gunfire in the Neighborhood

In mid-August, three people — two women and a man — were wounded when gunfire broke out during a fight under the Claiborne Avenue overpass, nola.com reported. That shooting followed an altercation near North Claiborne Avenue and LaHarpe Street around 10:30 p.m., and police said the victims' injuries were not life-threatening.

In July, a man was killed in a separate Seventh Ward shooting at North Rocheblave and Allen streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services, according to FOX 8 Live, which reported that no arrests had been made in that case.

Citywide Violent Crime Has Dropped Sharply

The repeated gunfire in the Seventh Ward comes even as citywide crime statistics point to a broader decline. New Orleans violent crimes, including homicides, nonfatal shootings, carjackings and armed robberies, fell 70%, from 816 incidents in the first half of 2022 to 247 in the first half of 2026, according to WGNO.com. Nonfatal shootings specifically declined 65% over the same period, from 237 incidents to 82.

The Seventh District, which the station describes as the city's highest-volume district, saw a 74% drop in violent crimes and a 61% decline in nonfatal shootings compared with 2025, per the same report. NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick attributed the decline to deliberate strategies carried out since 2023 by officers, command staff and community partners, saying those groups have “executed deliberate strategies, district by district.”

As of Monday morning, no arrests had been announced in connection with the North Galvez and Frenchmen streets shooting, and the victim's condition had not been confirmed. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
