Brew Haha Coffeehouse has shut down its drive-thru location at 13655 W. 63rd St. in Shawnee, making it the fifth separate restaurant concept to fail at that address in roughly four years. The coffeehouse announced the closure Monday, saying the location had become no longer financially feasible to keep open.

The company said continuing to operate the Shawnee storefront was no longer sustainable, according to The Kansas City Star. Brew Haha still runs its original location at 10332 Mastin St. in Overland Park, where it offers crepes, gluten-free pastries, and house-made syrups. The Shawnee shop, which opened in February, offered only gluten-free pastries, a point of differentiation for customers concerned about cross-contamination, according to Johnson County Post.

A Building That's Seen Four Concepts Fold

The 13655 W. 63rd St. storefront has now churned through five separate concepts since Sheridan's Frozen Custard closed in March 2022, a span of about four years and seven months. Sheridan's Frozen Custard held the spot for 15 years before closing in March 2022. Taco Hangover reopened the space in early 2023 but closed by the end of that year, and its creators — the owners of Saints Pub + Patio — then converted it into Saints Express, a fast-paced version of Saints that lasted only until March 2024. That burger-centric concept opened in November 2023, per the same Kansas City Star account.

Simon’s Pasta took over next, reopening the space in February 2025 as a fusion concept from a former Aixois chef, the Johnson County Post reported. The concept closed in October 2025 after roughly eight months.

Owner Called the Shawnee Space Nearly Turnkey

Owner Jason Presley described the Shawnee space as nearly turnkey because previous tenants had already installed infrastructure suited for drive-thru service, the Johnson County Post reported. Presley founded Brew Haha in 2019 at its flagship Overland Park location near 103rd Street and U.S. Highway 69, operating there for seven years before pursuing a second standalone storefront.

Presley could not be reached for comment Tuesday, according to the Star. The storefront sits near the Pflumm Road and Shawnee Mission Parkway corridor, sharing the retail footprint with longtime anchors including Fritz's Railroad Restaurant and Royal Shine Car Wash. Fritz's has operated at 13803 W. 63rd St. for 17 years, and its Crown Center location was recently declared to have the best chocolate shake tasted by a popular TikTok food reviewer and comedian.

Competition Heats Up Along the Corridor

Brew Haha's closure also comes amid nearby drive-thru beverage options along 63rd Street and Shawnee Mission Parkway. Arkansas-based 7 Brew was scheduled to open a drive-thru location in a former KFC building on 63rd Street on Sept. 28, 2026. Hoodline previously reported that it remained to be seen whether the stand would open as planned, and Dutch Bros already operates on Shawnee Mission Parkway nearby. These national chains are among the drive-thru beverage options in the area.

Brew Haha's closure marks another turnover at 13655 W. 63rd St. Four concepts have come and gone since Sheridan's Frozen Custard's long run ended, over a span of about four years and seven months, and the pattern suggests that physical readiness alone has not been enough to guarantee survival at the address.
