A 43-year-old Sioux City man was killed after being struck by two separate vehicles on U.S. Highway 30 east of Fremont, Nebraska, officials said. Damon Clarambeau was walking in the westbound lane when the first vehicle hit him, throwing him into oncoming traffic, where a second vehicle struck him. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to KETV, investigators said Clarambeau was walking westbound in the westbound lane of Highway 30 in Dodge County when he was hit by a vehicle also traveling westbound. The collision thrust him into the eastbound lane of travel, authorities said, where a second vehicle struck him. Deputies said neither the drivers nor any occupants in either vehicle were injured.
Local outlets have offered differing accounts of exactly when the crash happened. KTIV reported the collision took place Saturday, Oct. 24, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and County Road 26 east of Fremont. The station identified the driver of the first vehicle, a 2021 Toyota RAV4, as 51-year-old Jennifer Rhynalds of Prague, Nebraska, and said the second vehicle, a 2025 Ford Bronco, was driven by a juvenile.

Nebraska's Broader Roadway Toll
The crash adds to a difficult year on Nebraska roads. State data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation, as reported by Chadron Radio, show fifteen people were killed in traffic crashes across the state in August 2026 alone, with four of those deaths occurring on interstates, six on other highways and five on local roads. Nebraska had recorded 143 roadway fatalities through the first eight months of 2026, according to the same report, matching the 143 deaths from 130 fatal crashes logged over the same stretch in 2025.
The state has averaged 136 annual fatal crashes over the five years since 2022, per the Chadron Radio report. Separately, only 44 of the 115 vehicle occupants killed on Nebraska roads during 2026 were wearing seatbelts at the time, the outlet reported — though that figure applies to vehicle occupants and does not speak to pedestrian cases like Clarambeau's.
Other Recent Dodge County and Highway Deaths
Highway 30's stretch through Dodge County has seen other fatal wrecks in recent memory. A man from Wayne died in a separate two-vehicle collision on U.S. 275 just south of Scribner, also in Dodge County, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Pedestrians walking along Nebraska highway shoulders have also been struck elsewhere in the state; Omaha.com reported that a 57-year-old Plainview man was killed in a hit-and-run while walking along the north shoulder of U.S. Highway 20 in northeast Nebraska.
No citations or charges connected to Clarambeau's death have been reported, and investigators have not said why he was on the highway. The crash remains under investigation.
