A 19-year-old Slidell man was arrested last Saturday and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on 32 counts related to child sexual abuse material, including seven counts involving children under the age of 13. Jacob Michael Haynes, who lived on Admiral Nelson Drive, was taken into custody as part of an investigation that spanned multiple parishes and law enforcement agencies.
According to the Louisiana Office of the Attorney General, agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation looked into several tips that had come in through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators said that work led them to identify Haynes as the account holder tied to accounts reported to NCMEC that contained child sexual abuse material.
The case moved forward through a coordinated effort described by the Attorney General's office as involving the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Kenner Police Department. Haynes was ultimately located by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on October 17.
Multi-Agency Cooperation Highlighted in Announcement
News of the arrest circulated widely after the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office shared the Attorney General's arrest notice on Facebook, crediting the agents and the Kenner Police Department, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, and St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office for their roles in the case. The post identified Liz Murrill as Louisiana's Attorney General and noted that the arrest fell under her office's child sexual abuse material enforcement.
Haynes faces seven counts of child sexual abuse material involving children under the age of 13, along with 25 additional counts of child sexual abuse materials, the Attorney General's office said. The office described the investigation as ongoing, meaning additional findings or charges could still emerge as the case develops.
Conflicting Reports on Bond Status
Exactly what happens next for Haynes in terms of bond remains unclear, and the record on that point is mixed. The Attorney General's office stated plainly that bond information was unavailable at the time of its release. However, WVUE/Fox 8 reported that Haynes was being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail with an initial bond amount set at $100,000. The discrepancy between the official notice and the news report has not been resolved.
As is standard in arrest announcements, the Attorney General's office emphasized that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. That same presumption-of-innocence language was echoed in the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office's social media post sharing news of the arrest.
