Boston is heading into a soggy Friday, with showers arriving during the morning commute, patchy fog lingering into the afternoon and temperatures climbing to around 70 degrees. A second round of rain is expected Friday evening before a strong cooldown brings gusty winds and a much colder Saturday.
Showers are most likely between 7 and 10 a.m. Friday, followed by periods of rain and fog through the afternoon. The National Weather Service says southerly winds are in place, with gusts to 30 mph possible, and rainfall totals of 0.3 to 0.7 inches across southern New England.
Evening Rain Brings A Wetter Commute Home
Rain may ease for a time during the afternoon, but another batch of showers is forecast between roughly 5 and 11 p.m. Friday. A few thunderstorms could be embedded in that line, although the overall risk of severe weather is considered low and stronger wind gusts remain the main concern.
The timing is a sharper update to Thursday’s Hoodline forecast, which already flagged Friday as the messy day in Boston. Coastal boaters should also take note: a Gale Watch is in effect from Friday evening through Saturday evening.
Saturday Feels Like A Fast Fall Reset
Friday night stays unsettled, with showers, fog and temperatures falling into the 40s before rising slightly overnight. Saturday starts with a chance of early showers, then turns partly sunny but windy, with a high near 51 degrees and northwest gusts as high as 31 mph.
Saturday night will be clear and cold, with a low near 36 degrees in Boston and even colder readings away from the coast. Sunshine returns Sunday with a high near 54, followed by mostly dry conditions and highs in the upper 50s to around 60 through Tuesday.
