Grand Rapids starts Thursday under cloudy skies near 50 degrees, but the quiet morning will not last. Rain showers are expected to move in after 2 p.m., with a wetter and noticeably rougher stretch arriving by Friday.
Rain Builds Thursday Afternoon
The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high near 64, with roughly a quarter- to half-inch of rain possible. Rain is expected to spread across the area Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Wet, Windy Friday
Showers continue Thursday night, with widespread rain expected into early Friday and rain chances climbing to 100%. Temperatures are expected to fall to around 50 degrees overnight. Friday brings more showers before 4 p.m., as the mean low-level flow shifts to north-northeast and gusts around 40 mph are expected.
That combination could make Friday's morning and midday commute slick and blustery, so drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should allow extra time. The rain should taper off by evening as colder air settles in.
Sunny Weekend, Mild Start Next Week
Friday night turns partly cloudy with a low near 34 degrees, making for the chilliest stretch of the forecast. Saturday rebounds with sunshine and a high near 54, followed by a sunnier Sunday reaching about 62.
The extended outlook is much calmer, with mostly sunny or partly cloudy skies from Monday through Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to warm early next week, while rain chances remain near zero.
