A person answering their own front door in southwest Atlanta was struck in the face with a gun and robbed of personal items during an attack just before 1 a.m. on August 16, and police are still trying to figure out who did it. The assault happened in the 800 block of York Avenue SW, and investigators are now asking the public for help identifying the two people responsible.
According to Atlanta News First, two robbery suspects assaulted the victim right at their own door. Police believe the suspects struck the victim with a gun, cutting the person's face, before taking some personal items and fleeing the scene. No further details about how the confrontation began have been released.
Reward Offered as Investigation Continues
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case, per the same report. Anyone with information can submit tips anonymously by calling the CSGA tip line at 404-577-8477, using the P3 app, or texting CSGA to 738477.
Atlanta police have not released descriptions of the two suspects, and it remains unclear whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the attack. The case adds to a string of similar robbery investigations this year in which Atlanta police have turned to the public for leads after violent, gun-involved confrontations on city streets.
A Pattern of Armed Robberies Across Atlanta
In March, Atlanta police asked for the public's help identifying two men accused of striking a pedestrian with a firearm and stealing a bookbag on Lakewood Terrace SE, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. That robbery, reported around 5:36 p.m. at 1809 Lakewood Terrace SE, saw the suspects strike the victim in the head with a firearm before making off with a bag containing clothing and shoes, then fleeing in a white sedan caught on surveillance footage. Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta offered the same $5,000 reward in that case for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
Whether the two cases are connected has not been established, and no evidence ties the suspects from the March incident to the August attack on York Avenue SW. Investigators are treating the York Avenue case as an active, standalone inquiry as they continue to seek tips from anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has information about the people involved.
