Columbus is starting Friday, October 2, clear and near 72 degrees, but the brief warm spell is already running out of runway. Rain showers are expected from about 7 a.m. through 5 p.m., with temperatures sliding from near 70 into the low 60s as a cold front moves through.
Rain Takes Over Friday Morning
Showers become likely during the morning commute, with a 90% chance of rain and between a quarter-inch and half-inch possible. Winds will shift from southwest to northwest, running 8 to 12 mph with gusts up to 22 mph, while cloudy skies settle in across the city.
The front will bring a quick temperature drop, with readings falling toward 63 by late afternoon instead of climbing steadily through the day. The National Weather Service says a few embedded thunderstorms could develop south of the Columbus area, though the main threat locally is a wet, breezy day.
Sunny Weekend Offers A Reset
Friday night turns partly cloudy and cooler, with a low near 50 and only a small chance of rain. Saturday looks sunny and crisp, topping out near 69 with light northeast winds.
Sunday stays mostly sunny and rebounds to about 73, before another stretch of dry, cooler weather arrives next week. Monday and Tuesday should remain sunny, with highs near 66 and 64 and overnight lows around 41 and 42; patchy frost may become possible in some spots Monday night and Tuesday night.
The updated forecast is a sharper change from Hoodline's earlier Columbus outlook, with the wettest period now concentrated from Friday morning into the afternoon. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed, but drivers should plan for wet roads and reduced visibility during the commute.
