Los Angeles is waking up under cloudy skies Thursday with temperatures around 61 degrees, but the bigger weather story is waiting for Halloween weekend: rain is likely to arrive Saturday and continue into Sunday. Downtown Los Angeles should reach about 74 degrees Thursday before a cooler, wetter stretch settles in.
Clouds Hold Over Los Angeles Before Rain Arrives
Thursday will bring only a small chance of rain. A slight chance of light rain develops after midnight, with temperatures falling to around 62 degrees.
Friday remains mostly cloudy and cooler, with a high near 72 degrees. Rain chances stay low during the day, but the atmosphere will be getting noticeably less cooperative ahead of Saturday's storm system, according to data from the National Weather Service.
Halloween Weekend Looks Wet
Rain is likely after 11 a.m. Saturday, with a 70% chance of precipitation and a high near 69 degrees. The forecast turns wetter Saturday night, when rain is expected to continue and temperatures could drop to around 58 degrees — not exactly ideal conditions for elaborate costumes or leisurely trick-or-treating.
Sunday brings a 60% chance of rain, mainly before 4 p.m., followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 72 degrees. The weather then improves quickly, with sunshine and highs near 76 degrees Monday and 77 degrees Tuesday.
Coastal Flooding Concerns Continue Through Friday
Coastal communities remain under a Coastal Flood Advisory through 2 p.m. Friday because of unusually high tides. The National Weather Service says vulnerable harbor walkways, beach parking lots and bike paths could see shallow flooding, with the greatest concern around high tide, according to its Los Angeles forecast.
For most of the city, Thursday and Friday should be manageable with a jacket handy and umbrellas on standby. Saturday is the day to rethink outdoor plans, particularly for Halloween events near the coast or during the evening rain window.
